WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER (WWME) – MOMBASA ARCHDIOCESE
WWME HISTORY
Began in Spain in 1952 by Fr. Gabriel Calvo. In 1978 The late Cardinal Maurice Otunga while visiting the U.S attended a M.E. weekend after experiencing the weekend, he came back home and invited a couple and a priest to Kenya to facilitate a weekend in Nairobi.
In Mombasa Marriage Encounter was revived in 2000 by late Fr. Thomas Barbero – IMC – who was Likoni parish priest by then assisted by Team couples from Kahawa parish in Nairobi where he had played a very important role in journeying together with M.E couples there. The 1st weekend had 22 couples (Named Mombasa One).
Later on Fr. Joseph Kenga a diocesan priest joined Fr Thomas in giving weekends and since then the Archdiocese has been holding weekends every year as it has own weekend facilitating teams both couples & Priests.
WHAT IS WWME
Worldwide marriage encounter is an enrichment for married couples who value their relationship and desire a richer, fuller life together. It is also for priests and religious who want to strengthen their relationships with their church communities. More info at www.wwme.org

VISION & MISSION
VISION
MISSION
Renewal of the church and change in the world
Our Objectives
- To work in the Church, helping where we can, and to live our marriages as per God’s plan.
- To give weekend experience to couples, priests, and the religious.
- To serve the people of God – to be a gift to the church and to the community
- Assist in preparing engaged couples and those who intend to get married in the church
- Under the Diocese team, we have the Parish coordinating couples, financial couples, and secretarial couples.
Pillars of Worldwide Marriage Encounter
- 1) Weekend – We usually have weekends 3 times annually. Parishes can organise too
- 2) Structure – The leadership (coordinating, Treasurer, Secretarial couples and encountered Priest)
- 3) Community – Activities
- 4) Team – This is a group of facilitation teams who are just known as Teams (Couples & priests)
Worldwide Marriage Encounter Charism
- Married couples are introduced to the sacramentality through weekend experience.
- Their minds and hearts are opened to a deep personal conversion.
- They are invited to embrace an alternate life style that leads to a personal and couple renewal shared in a community and apostleship in the church all of which contribute to the renewal of the church.
- The people who accept and live the VALUES of the weekend become part of the movement through their lifestyle.
- They live in a deep responsible relationship routed in open and intimate communication.
- Their awareness of being sacramental leads them to apostleship in the church.
Activities of Team Couples (Walimu Wa ME) In Marriage Encounter
